How to Record Vertical and Horizontal Video at the Same Time on iPhone

If you post content on more than one platform, you already know the problem. TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts need vertical video (9:16). YouTube, LinkedIn, and your website need horizontal video (16:9).

Until now, you had three options: record twice, crop in an editing app, or skip a platform entirely. None of them are good.

The old way: record twice or crop

Most creators handle this one of two ways.

Recording twice means doing your take, switching your phone orientation, and doing it again. For scripted content, that’s manageable. For anything spontaneous, it’s impossible. You can’t re-create a genuine reaction, a live event, or a perfect demo twice.

Cropping in post means recording in one orientation and using CapCut, Premiere, or another editing app to reframe for the other. This loses resolution, creates awkward framing, and takes 15-30 minutes per video. A horizontal video cropped to vertical rarely looks intentional.

The new way: record both simultaneously

OneShot Cam uses your iPhone’s dual rear cameras to record vertical and horizontal video at the same time. One camera captures your portrait (9:16) frame. The other captures your landscape (16:9) frame.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Open OneShot Cam. You’ll see your main viewfinder with a picture-in-picture preview showing the other orientation.
  2. Frame your shot. The dual preview shows you exactly what both outputs will look like. Adjust your position until both frames look right.
  3. Tap record. Both cameras start simultaneously. Record your content as you normally would.
  4. Tap stop. Two video files are saved to your camera roll. One vertical, one horizontal. Perfectly synced.

That’s it. No editing. No cropping. No re-recording.

Why this matters for creators

Every platform you skip is audience you lose. If you only post vertical, you’re missing YouTube’s 2+ billion monthly users who primarily watch horizontal content. If you only post horizontal, you’re missing the short-form audience on TikTok, Reels, and Shorts.

OneShot Cam means every recording session produces content for every platform. One take, both formats, straight to your camera roll.
